Oleg Tyrkin, a vivid representative of the 1990s generation, was born in Vladimir in 1965. His biography closely coincided with the changes taking place in the country. By the age of 20, Tyrkin had dreamed of a career as a woodcarver, an artist, and ultimately, after graduating from the Vyazniki Aviation School and receiving a military specialty, he became a seemingly unnecessary commander of a combat helicopter crew. The country was undergoing profound transformations. In this context, the path of an artist appeared to be the most organic and free.
And so it happened. Tyrkin became an artist, incorporating the theme of flight into his work. His first solo exhibition took place in 1990 at the "Victor Hugo" gallery in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. After that, he didn’t exactly wake up famous, but his works received high praise from professionals and, equally importantly, from gallery owners, while the public was struck by the freedom and sincerity of his expression. There followed many creative projects and discoveries: participation in the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art, solo exhibitions in galleries in France (1990, 2001), Germany (1992), Switzerland (1997, 1999), and England (2007, 2010, 2011). Over the past decades, Oleg Tyrkin's works have repeatedly been showcased in exhibition spaces throughout Russia.
